Michigan players can now compete against online poker users in New Jersey and Pennsylvania through DraftKings’ expanded shared player pool.

DraftKings has received approval from the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) to launch its multi-state online poker network in Michigan, marking another significant step forward for regulated online gaming in the United States.

The approval allows DraftKings Poker players in Michigan to join a shared player pool with customers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, increasing tournament prize pools, improving game availability and creating a more competitive online poker ecosystem across state lines.

The expanded network officially launched on 8 July in partnership with the Bay Mills Indian Community, DraftKings’ tribal gaming partner in Michigan.

Shared liquidity enables licensed operators to combine player pools from participating regulated jurisdictions, delivering larger tournaments, faster game starts and a wider range of cash games for players.

The move further strengthens DraftKings’ position in the highly competitive US online poker market, where operators continue to expand their interstate offerings as more regulators embrace shared liquidity agreements.

Michigan has become one of the leading regulated online gaming markets in North America since legalising online casino gaming, sports betting and poker, with interstate poker seen as a key driver for long-term player engagement and market growth.

For DraftKings, the expansion complements its broader online gaming and sportsbook strategy by enhancing its poker product while offering players a more attractive experience through increased liquidity and larger guaranteed prize pools.

The approval also reflects continued collaboration between state regulators and licensed operators to develop sustainable regulated online gaming markets while maintaining high standards of consumer protection and responsible gaming.

Industry analysts expect additional states to consider joining interstate poker agreements in the coming years, further expanding player pools and strengthening the regulated US online poker landscape.
