Caesars Entertainment could play a central role in bringing the NBA to the Las Vegas Strip after its real estate partner, VICI Properties, confirmed it is working with the casino giant on plans for a potential new arena.

The proposal emerged during VICI Properties’ latest earnings call, where President and Chief Operating Officer John Payne revealed that the company is collaborating with Caesars Entertainment on a development concept that could accommodate an arena should the NBA award an expansion franchise to Las Vegas.

While no formal announcement has been made regarding an NBA expansion team or arena construction, the comments represent one of the clearest indications yet that Caesars and VICI are actively preparing for the possibility.

The proposed arena would reportedly be located on land behind Caesars-operated properties on the Las Vegas Strip, placing it at the heart of one of the world’s busiest gaming and entertainment destinations. Such a venue would further strengthen Caesars’ position as a major player in Las Vegas’ rapidly expanding sports and entertainment market.

Las Vegas has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past decade, evolving from a city once reluctant to embrace major professional sports into one of North America’s premier sporting destinations. The arrival of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights, the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders, Formula 1’s Las Vegas Grand Prix and the forthcoming relocation of Major League Baseball’s Athletics have all helped reshape the city’s tourism offering.

An NBA franchise would represent another significant milestone, with up to 41 regular-season home games expected each year, alongside playoff fixtures and additional entertainment events. For casino operators, such a venue could generate increased hotel occupancy, gaming revenue, food and beverage sales, and convention business throughout the year.

VICI Properties CEO Edward Pitoniak also highlighted the company’s long-term confidence in Las Vegas, noting that the business continues to evaluate development opportunities that enhance the city’s appeal as a global entertainment destination.

The close relationship between Caesars Entertainment and VICI Properties makes the proposal particularly noteworthy. VICI owns many of Caesars’ flagship casino properties, with Caesars continuing to operate the resorts under long-term lease agreements. Their collaboration on a potential arena demonstrates how the partnership could extend beyond traditional casino real estate into large-scale mixed-use entertainment developments.

Although the NBA has yet to formally announce its next expansion plans, Las Vegas is widely regarded as one of the leading candidates for a future franchise. Should the league move forward, Caesars Entertainment appears well positioned to become a key participant in what could be one of the city’s most significant entertainment developments in years.
